What medications does Juniper use? Are they approved in Australia?

All medications prescribed by Juniper clinicians have been approved for use in Australia, and are commonly prescribed by GPs for the treatment of weight management. However, due to Australian Therapeutic Goods regulations, we are unable to share the names of our treatments until you have completed a consultation with one of our Juniper practitioners and are approved for treatment. This is to ensure a qualified medical professional discusses all the options available to you before you make any decisions regarding medical treatments.

How does the medication work?

Juniper’s most prescribed treatment is a breakthrough medication approved in Australia for weight loss. The treatment is made up of a molecule that works like the glucagon-like-peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor. GLP-1 is an appetite hormone that your body naturally produces to help regulate hunger. Juniper’s medication works like GLP-1 by suppressing your appetite and increasing the feeling of being full. This makes it easier for your body to maintain a lower weight, meaning you won't have to fight so hard to keep the weight off.

Will I experience side effects on Juniper’s medication?

All medications come with a risk of side effects, but side effects experienced on Juniper’s medication are usually temporary and can be reduced and managed. The most common side effect on Juniper’s medication is nausea, with 40% of users experiencing this temporarily. Other common side effects include reflux, headaches, constipation, vomiting, fatigue and irritation to the injection site. We know these side effects are not ideal, but they are common and normal among patients on this class of medication.

How does the treatment work?

Juniper’s most effective treatment mimics a naturally concurring hormone to suppress appetite and overhaul hunger signals, helping patients feel fuller for longer. Unlike other medical treatments of the same class, this treatment also acts on a secondary hormone pathway that promotes fat loss and blocks fat gain. By combining the effects of these hormones together, this treatment is more effective at promoting weight loss through reduced appetite, as well as acting directly on the pathways that lead to fat loss.

Can I take Juniper's treatment with my current medication?

When considering treatment with Juniper, your practitioner will ask you questions about your medical history and any pre-existing health conditions to determine if treatment is suitable for you. Many Juniper patients take Juniper’s treatment in conjunction with other medication requirements. Our medical team will work with you to best manage your treatment.
