WEIGHT LOSS WARNING: Australia’s leading telehealth weight loss platform urges holistic health “warning” with every script.

August 1, 2024

1 August 2024 – With the latest news that the new weight loss treatment indicated for weight management is now readily available in Australia, telehealth weight loss platform Juniper urges healthcare professionals to emphasise that the treatment program alone is not a fast route to long-term weight loss. It can be a more effective tool in conjunction with holistic health and lifestyle change.

The volatility of weight loss treatment supply in Australia has been ongoing for two years, with thousands of people impacted around the country being unable to access these highly effective treatment programs.

To ensure that everyone receives the appropriate holistic health support, Juniper is calling on healthcare professionals to actively highlight the importance of evidence-based lifestyle approaches, such as a high-protein diet and strength training, for effective fat loss while preserving muscle health.

Dr Matthew Vickers, Clinical Director for Juniper said, “With the new treatment program now in supply, we urge health practitioners to stress the importance of a holistic health approach to weight loss for long-term success.”

“While access to this treatment program is a positive step for Australian patients worried about their weight-associated health issues, no singular treatment is a silver bullet.”

“Research indicates that this treatment program may work best with diet, exercise, and medical guidance to help patients change habits long-term. For patients with weight-related issues seeking responsible and sustainable use, the Juniper program provides comprehensive support,” Dr Vickers said.

A study in the Journal of Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism found that medical treatments in this class are more effective when combined with personalised health coaching provided as part of the Juniper program. Compared to other studies, Juniper patients achieved better results in just 32 weeks.

Key findings:

  • Juniper patients were twice as likely to lose at least 15% of their weight
  • They were 4.5 times more likely to lose over 5% of their weight
  • At 32 weeks, Juniper patients lost an average of 11.6% of their weight, with nearly 90% losing at least 5%, and 60% losing at least 10%
  • A quarter of Juniper patients lost at least 15% of their weight

Dr Vickers added, “Figures from our UK Juniper patient cohort demonstrate that on average patients lose 10.7% of their body weight after six months with the tailored treatment program our telehealth weight loss service provides.”
